Drape Tool

Drape vertices to a point cloud

Overview

The Drape Tool can be found in the bottom tool bar or via hotkey D.

Notion image

The Drape Tool allows users to shift the visible vertices of a line to the highest or lowest points in a point cloud at each of their locations.

By default the button will drape to the lowest point. If a user long presses on the icon it will bring up an additional menu for the options to drape high and bring up the drape settings.

Drape Settings

If a user is seeing less than ideal results using the drape tool, long press the icon and go into the drape settings. There a user will find 4 different settings to try for optimizing results for the area they are working in.

Drape Strategy
Definition
Interpolated (Default Setting)
Interpolated picking with a good balance of edge precision while smoothing flat regions. Best for most tasks.
General (Averaging)
Moderate point averaging that excludes outliers. Good for most tasks.
Fine Detail
No averaging. Uses closest individual point. Best for detailed edge work.
Coarse Smoothing (High Averaging)
High Averaging for point cloud surfaces with lots of noise. Best for flat areas and ghosted datasets.
